Harmison: The kids are all right

Steve Harmison has lavished praise upon his younger team-mates for helping England to win the Ashes.

'There are some young lads who can be proud of what they've done,' said Harmison. 'They put their hand up and made the difference.

'It's up there with 2005. We beat a phenomenal side in 2005, but everything that has gone with this side has been amazing: a new coach, a new captain, young lads. I don't know what to say.'

Harmison did his best to maul his team mates as the celebrations begun.

'It was different because in 2005 we won it in the dressing room. I always wondered what it would be like to win it on the field, and always wanted to do it. I didn't know what to do: to run, to jump on the lads or what.

The Durham paceman also dismissed observations that Australia may have been the better side throughout the series. One statistic shows that the visitors scored eight centuries to England's two.

'England didn't score enough hundreds; didn't take enough five-fors - so what?' shrugged Harmison. 'It's like a football team having 70 per cent of the possession. You've still got to win.

'And we won.'ADNFCR-708-ID-19325942-ADNFCR
