Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has criticised officials after claiming his team were denied a series of penalties during their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.
Benitez criticised the decision not to award Liverpool a penalty for Benoit Assou-Ekotto's challenge on Andriy Voronin and then an apparent handball later in the game.
Speaking after the game, the Liverpool boss said: 'The decisions were very poor.
'Everyone could see the first one was a penalty. The second one was handball but we knew it would not be a penalty.'
Benitez suggested referee Phil Dowd may have decided not to award either as a penalty having already award one earlier in the game.
'With this referee, I knew this [another penalty] was impossible,' he continued.
It was a frustrating game for Liverpool, who are already playing catch up with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all recording wins on the opening weekend of the season.
Benitez's frustrations didn't stop at the refereeing though and he also criticised fourth official Stuart Atwell for sending off his assistant manager Sammy Lee for protesting too much, claiming he was too young.
'For the fourth official, he is a young referee and maybe he has to calm down a little bit. He is too young,' he said.
