The crown prosecution service (CPS) is to examine whether there is enough evidence to charge a convicted murderer over the death of schoolgirl Milly Dowler, reports suggest.
The Press Association claims Surrey police have referred the case to the CPS to decide on whether to charge Levi Bellfield over the schoolgirl's murder.
The 41-year-old was jailed in 2008 for killing Amelie Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell and has long been seen as the main suspect in the police investigation into Milly's death.
The 13-year-old was murdered in 2002. Her remains were found on Yateley Heath Forest, near Fleet in Hampshire, six months after she failed to return home from school.
Earlier this month, a 40-year-old man from west London was arrested and released without charge as part of the investigation into her murder.
A CPS spokeswoman told inthenews.co.uk they had yet to receive a file from the police, but reports suggested it would be sent next week.
