Windows 7, which has been available to businesses since July, will be accessible to PC users from tomorrow.
The features of the new system are designed to take into account multimedia applications, and it will be available in six separate editions.
Some stores are expected to open from midnight, including PC World on London's Tottenham Court Road, so shoppers can get their hands on Windows 7, with Microsoft encouraging people to hold launch parties for the new operating system.
The new system is being launched three years after Vista, and a Home Premium pack will cost consumers £79.99 until January 1st, when the price will rise by £20.
Windows 7 has been designed to be compatible to netbooks and some of the features are similar to those used by Apple Mac.
