Pakistan army chief killed in broad daylight

High-ranking Pakistani military officer shot dead in broad daylight in upmarket area of Islamabad
Public fear of lawlessness in Islamabad is growing after the second deadly attack in the Pakistani capital in 48 hours.

A high-ranking military officer and his driver were killed in broad daylight in an upmarket area of the city when gunmen on a motorcycle sprayed their car with bullets.

TV pictures showed Brigadier Moin Haider's car riddled with bullets.

'Unknown gunmen opened fire on a military vehicle in Islamabad's G-11 sector,' police official Qamar Ahmed told al-Jazeera

'Witnesses have told us two men came on a motorcycle and opened fire.'

On Tuesday five students died in twin suicide bombings at the capital's International Islamic University, prompting a citywide closure of schools, shops and offices.

No one has claimed any responsibility for today's attack, but both are thought to be in response to a massive army offensive against Taliban and al-Qaida linked militants in South Waziristan.ADNFCR-708-ID-19421951-ADNFCR
