Local reports suggest a suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body at a checkpoint outside the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra, around 45 miles north-west of the capital, Islamabad.
Two air force personnel are believed to be among the dead. There has, however, been no immediate claim of responsibility.
Hours later a car bomb exploded outside a restaurant in the north-western city of Peshawar, reportedly wounding 15 people.
Today's attacks come as the Pakistan military continues its offensive against the Taliban in South Waziristan on the Afghan border.
The United Nations claims over 100,000 people fled the region in the weeks leading up the assault, while 30,000 have left in the last few days.
