Hurricane Bill has been downgraded to a category three storm after weakening slightly as it approaches Bermuda.
The storm is expected to hit the Caribbean island later on Thursday.
The national hurricane centre (NHC) in Miami has released an update on Bill's progress, confirming the storm's maximum winds have decreased from 135mph to 125mph.
However, the centre has warned the hurricane could strengthen again in the next 24 hours, and could regain category four status later today or on Friday.
Large swells associated with Bill are predicted to start hitting the island of the northeast Caribbean, including the Bahamas and Bermuda, during the next day or so.
They will also start affecting parts of the east coast of the United States during the weekend, the NHC claims.
Hurricanes of category three or more on the five-step Saffir-Simpson intensity scale are considered 'major' and are the most destructive type.
