Hart hopeful of Pompey takeover deal

Portsmouth boss Paul Hart is optimistic the club will soon be under new ownership.

It was revealed yesterday that Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie has headed up a new buyout plan after doubts arose over the potential of an offer from Arabian businessman Sulaiman Al Fahim.

With the club currently in financial turmoil they are in desperate need of a cash injection, something Hart knows only too well.

'What do I know about the new takeover bid? Only that we might be getting some good news,' he said.

'We're all keeping our fingers crossed, that there might be a successful takeover bid.

'I think it is imminent. I think we need to get this sorted out. That is pretty obvious for everyone.'

Portsmouth are not faring too well on the pitch either after they suffered their second defeat of the season last night. An injury-time penalty from James McFadden was enough to give Birmingham the win against the south coast club.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish knows how important it was for his team to get their first win under their belts: 'We are delighted because we know how tough it is to win in the Premier League and especially coming up from the Championship and being tipped as the underdogs throughout this coming season.

'It is only the start but it was a great victory nonetheless because we lamented the fact last time in the Premier League that we drew too many home games.'

Birmingham will be looking for another home win when they host Stoke on Saturday and Pompey face a very difficult task away at in-form Arsenal.ADNFCR-708-ID-19322261-ADNFCR
