Burnley manager Owen Coyle was delighted to silence the critics after the Clarets' 1-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Few were backing Coyle's side to come out of the match with anything more than their pride intact but Robbie Blake's 18th minute volley earned the Premier League newcomers a vital first three points.
The Burnley manager said: 'First and foremost we are absolutely thrilled to get the three points.
'It is a timely and terrific boost because anyone outside this town would have looked at the first five fixtures and think we would be sat here with zero points.
'I have talked about the belief and the confidence, and it's nice to disprove a few people who thought we would be bottom with no points.
'What we have to do now is disprove a few more who have written us off over the course of the season.'
Coyle admitted that his side rode their luck on occasions during the 90 minutes, particularly with Michael Carrick missing a first-half penalty, but believes this result will stand the Clarets in good stead for the rest of the season.
He added: 'I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the goals we conceded on Saturday, but we have rectified that.
'We had to be brave because we were playing against a side that move the ball so well and we had to ride our luck at times.
'Collectively, we were magnificent and if we can replicate that it will serve us well for the rest of the season.'
Blake's strike sent the Burnley faithful into raptures and Coyle reserved special praise for the supporters' influence yesterday evening.
'At times, Turf Moor gets a bad rap. People want to call it ramshackle and this and that, but for me, I am from the old school and this is our Turf,' he added.
'When the fans are at capacity and one song, as they were in the game when the whole place was rocking, they are unbeatable.'
