Felipe Massa’s temporary replacement Luca Badoer has said that he realizes he has a difficult task ahead of him in Valencia and that he is just aiming to finish the race.
The Italian has been Ferrari’s test driver for the past 12 years and was offered the opportunity to race for the team following Michael Schumacher’s announcement that he will not be fit enough to stand in for the recovery Massa, because of a neck injury he suffered during a superbike test in Spain.
Badoer has begun his preparations in earnest,and he got the opportunity to drive a 2009-spec car at the Fiorano circuit in Italy for a video and photo shoot for Ferrari’s partners.
'These 200 kilometres were absolutely insignificant from a technical point of view, but they allowed me to get to know the car again,' said Badoer
'I have a good impression and it’s obvious that there’s a difficult task waiting for me at Valencia: the first race will help me to get back into the rhythm of a formula one weekend. I haven’t set myself any goals, just to end the race,' he continued.
The Italian is pleased that Schumacher will be present at the race, as he will be looking to get some advice from the seven-time world champion.
'I’m glad that Michael will be with the team, I’m sure he can give me some important tips,” Badoer said.
'Over the last days we’ve spoken very often and we even trained together when he was still trying to get ready to race.
'I was really sad, because I know how much he would have liked it. Although I am now able to make my dream come true, I am his friend, his admirer and his fan.'
And on his relationship with Kimi Raikkonen, Badoer said: 'We’ve got an excellent relationship and I’m sure that we’ll work very well together as teammates.
'He’s got his character, but that’s nothing new; I feel very good when we’re together.'
