Brawn: Button deserves it

Jenson Button is a deserving F1 world champion, according to Ross Brawn
Brawn GP team principal Ross Brawn says 2009 formula one world champion Jenson Button deserves all the plaudits he gets after clinching the title at the penultimate race in Brazil.

Button has come in for criticism for limping to the world title in recent weeks, picking up the odd points here and there while his rivals slipped up.

And although Brawn admitted the team have fallen off the pace since recording six straight wins at the start of the season, he said it doesn't take any of the gloss off either achievement.

'We've lost a little bit of pace on the car compared to our competitors in the last few races, but Jenson stuck with it,' an emotional Brawn said.

'He deserves it.'

The team's achievements this season have been something of a fairy story - the former Bennetton and Ferrari tactician bought the rights to Honda's spots on the grid after the Japanese team pulled out over the winter.

And despite limited preparation for the new campaign, his technical team built a car that dominated the early races and were head and shoulders above the rest of the field.

Nevertheless, Brawn went on to praise Button's personal crusade for the world title - paying a particular compliment to his exhilarating performance at Interlagos.

'Jenson is a fantastic racer and he had a great race, he knew what he had to do,' the Brawn GP boss added.

The final weekend at Abu Dhabi in two weeks' time - the first ever race in the Middle Eastern city - will be something of a victory procession for Brawn and Button.ADNFCR-708-ID-19415989-ADNFCR
